Category: 2014 Wisconsin

My little sister, Jenni, is getting married to Russ Hagen on 11 July and we wouldn’t miss it for the world. We’re off on a three-week holiday to America’s Midwest to share the moment when Jenni and Russ unite and to take a badly needed break. Joseph and Padma are in dire need of a good relaxing holiday as they’ve had a ridiculously busy and stressful half year as a Year 11 student and as a high school teacher. For Joseph it will be his first time in Wisconsin in the summer and the first time he’s been to a wedding. We’ll start off at sister Cindy’s home in Somerset, Wisconsin and catch up on some sleep, indulge in some brats and beer and search for clearance sales. We’ll spend a day in the Elk Mound, Wisconsin area to find out more about mom’s Webert ancestors. Then we’ll celebrate the 4th of July in fashion and see a good ole American parade, spend a day on the St Croix River and then watch fireworks. We can’t go to the US in summer and not see a Major League Baseball game so we’ll watch the Twins play the Yankees. Then we’re off to Chicago and Madison for a quick roadtrip to catch up with friends and family. Jenni and Russ are getting married in Minneapolis. After the wedding we’ll hang out with Jenni and Russ and do some cycling around Minneapolis.

I was born in Southern California and didn’t move to Wisconsin until I was 10 years old. As a result I always felt like a bit of a foreigner here and that probably explains why I left Wisconsin after finishing university and spent most of my adult life living overseas. What I didn’t know at
