The Australian Wine Research Institute

Michael Major Media (formerly Winebiz, the website development division of Winetitles) has been providing website development services to The Australian Wine Research Institute since 1998. The current website was built in 2013 and features a heavily customised WordPress backend to meet all of the AWRI’s content delivery requirements.

Since 1993, I have directed the development of more than 300 websites, including Australian Wine Online, which won the gold ladle and the bronze ladle in the 1999 and 2001 World Food Media Awards for best beverage or food website or CD-ROM in the world.

My team of designers and developers have also developed some of the leading wine industry sites like Winebiz; The Australian Wine Research Institute; the Australian Society of Oenology and Viticulture; Winegrape Grape Growers Australia; Wine Jobs and Limestone Coast Wine Industry Council. Our client base also includes a number of primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions and businesses of all sizes, such as the national travel package wholesaler, Venture Holidays.

I have been the editor of the Australian & New Zealand Wine Industry Directory since 1995. This annual job requires significant production coordination. I prepare an extensive statistical overview of the Australian and New Zealand wine industries and conduct a survey of the top wine companies in Australia.

Science editing

Since 2006 I have been the editor of Technical Review, a bi-monthly journal published by The Australian Wine Research Institute.

I have managed the production of the proceedings for the 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Australian Wine Industry Technical Conferences.

Editorial management

From 1995 to 2001, I was the editor of The Australian & New Zealand Wine Industry Journal.

My technical and scientific background (MSc. in agricultural journalism and BSc. in biology) enable me to keep a sharp eye out to assure that technical and scientific nomenclature is accurately presented in the proceedings.
